Diabetes Awareness Week 8-14 June 2026

This week is Diabetes Awareness Week, led by Diabetes UK, focusing on changing the way we talk about diabetes and tackling diabetes stigma.

Many people living with diabetes experience blame, judgement or incorrect assumptions about their condition. Research shared by Diabetes UK shows that 8 out of 10 people with diabetes have faced negative attitudes linked to their condition.

At Somer Valley Medical Group, we want to support our patients by helping to raise awareness that:

  • Diabetes is nobody’s fault
  • Everyone deserves kindness, respect and support
  • Stigma can affect mental wellbeing and confidence
  • Open conversations and understanding can make a real difference

Diabetes stigma can sometimes stop people attending appointments or seeking support, which may affect their health and wellbeing.

Whether you are living with Type 1, Type 2 or another form of diabetes, we are here to support you without judgement.
