MenB Vaccination Programme Update

You may have seen recent media coverage regarding the MenB (Meningococcal B) vaccine. We understand that there has been significant interest in this programme, and we would like to share the latest information available from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

A new one-off, time-limited MenB vaccination programme is being introduced this summer for certain groups of young people who are at higher risk of meningococcal disease, particularly those moving into shared accommodation for education.

Who is eligible?

In England, the following groups are eligible for the programme:

  • Young people currently in Year 13 (born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008).
  • Undergraduate students born on or after 21 July 2001 who will be attending university for the first time in autumn 2026.
  • Students born on or after 21 July 2001 who will be starting further education for the first time in autumn 2026 and living in residential accommodation or halls of residence.

Where will the vaccine be given?

The MenB vaccine will be provided through participating community pharmacies and is not being delivered by GP practices.

  • Eligible Year 13 students will be contacted by the NHS and sent details on how to book a pharmacy appointment.
  • Eligible university and residential further education students will be able to access the vaccine through participating pharmacies, including walk-in services where available.
